Salmon / Trout Fishing

Salmon fishing in Scotland is a world famous pastime and Persie offers facilities for fishermen of all experiences. Both the Blackwater (which runs along the eastern boundary of the estate) and the Ericht (a ten minute drive) offer fantastically productive and picturesque fishing locations. Fishing prices for the day depend on the number of rods and the time of year. All equipment is available for hire and gillies can be provided through the Estate.

Alternatively you may wish to spend an hour or two in the boat on Persie Loch fishing for wild brown trout. Persie Loch has 2 boats. Life jackets are available.

Clay pigeon shooting

The Estate offers staff, facilities and equipment for clay pigeon shooting and rifle target practice. Costs vary depending on the guests’ requirements but as a guide an hour-long session starts at £50 per person. There is also a world class Clay Shooting facility at Auchterhouse a short distance away.

Stalking/shooting

Stalking may be arranged locally through the estate or sporting agents.
Grouse shooting or pheasant/partridge shooting may be arranged with sufficient notice on local estates.

Skiing

During the winter months, there is extensive skiing available within a 15 minute drive at Glenshee.

Wildlife

There is a huge variety of wildlife sharing the estate with our visitors; 3 species of deer, ospreys on the loch, otters on the river, red squirrels in the garden and blackcock on the hill. Hen harriers are often spotted quartering the moor. Even the mighty eagle passes over occasionally.

Hiking

There are a dozen “munros” locally, and many more within easy striking distance. There is a wide variety of local walks catering for all abilities. The Cairngorm National Park is just up the Glen, and the Cateran Trail is nearby.

Tennis/Golf

Persie’s gardens are equipped with a hard tennis court for guests’ use as they please.
Golf Golfers will know that this part of Scotland is blessed with exceptional offerings; championship courses and links courses all within a short drive. Furthermore, the highest course in the British Isles (Dalmunzie) is just along the Glen.

Landmarks

Balmoral Castle (35 miles), Blair Castle (25 miles), Scone Palace (23 miles), Glamis Castle (22 miles) are all in range of a day out. Alternatively, take a trip up Royal Deeside to Ballater and Crathie Kirk. There are multiple antique centre’s, or combine a trip to Pitlochry with a visit to The House of Bruar (29 miles), one of the nations most famous shops, selling luxury clothes, food, gifts and souvenirs. Amongst many others, Edradour (18 miles), the smallest whisky distillery in Scotland is open for tours and sampling.
